I wasn't there and you were but just on that small photo my feeling is it 
doesn't look like a Cattle Egret. Shape looks wrong for that species. Why would 
it be that?

While cycling through Gungahlin this morning; spotted a Cattle Egret on a small 
pond just next to the bikepath near the intersection of Gundaroo Drive and 
Horse Park Drive: Image is cropped from 
a photo taken with my phone, hence fairly poor quality.
