2, possibly 3, Snipes at JWNR around 4 pm today.  A single bird was spotted opposite the Snipe Hide on the peninsular. Shortly afterwards, two were spotted together, feeding in the vegetation further along the peninsular.  None appeared to be banded.

And, yes, the Northern Shoveler was still present, feeding among Australian Shovelers in the open areas of Kelly's swamp.

Hi All,

You are receiving this email as you have helped to survey Latham’s Snipe at one or more sites over the past few years around the ACT (noting that I have also cc’d the chatline in cased I missed someone). We have put the data that you have all collected into the attached map which, once formally launched, will be an interactive online map with associated information for each site. This has been done for all the sites around Australia. The dark blue dots are sites with high numbers of birds, the light blue indicates some birds and the white dots are sites where no birds were recorded. It should be noted that all the sites surveyed have historically had at least one Latham’s Snipe recorded so the zero count data is important too. I want to thank you for your efforts (and patience while we have been pulling the information together). If you notice an issue with your site on the map please let me know.

I would also like to ask whether you would be willing to survey your site(s) again on the following dates: Sat 21st September, Sat November 16th and Sat January 18th (2020). These dates align with the national snipe surveys. Email me if you are keen. If you do not have a site and wish to undertake a survey, please get in touch and I can provide more information.

In related news, we plan to do a catch in November, and another one in early January to attempt to affix 5 more satellite transmitters at Jerra Wetlands. I will keep everyone posted on this as we progress.

Cheers Lori
