Northern Shoveler

I was travelling between roosts today and was lucky enough to see the Billilingra Ostrich ( a left over from a farm) at about 1350 beside the Monaro Highway. We diverted to Kelly's hoping to twitch the Northern Shoveler and did so.  We didn't hang around to look for the other goodies being seen at Kellys

I wonder if this combination of birds has ever been ticked before  in Australia within 90 minutes?

The bird was roosting when I arrived at about 8.30 am. It briefly
entered the water when chased from the roost by a Purple Swamphen but
the bird immediately returned to its roost.

At 11 am it entered the water and swam eastwards until it reached the
entrance to the channel between the reedbeds. After a small number of
feeding attempts it swam back to the roost.

Shortly after 12 noon it again entered the water. It engaged in the
following displays while in the presence of Australasian Shovelers: wing
flap, head bob, bill stabbed forward, bill flicked sideways and short
flight/water bomb. The Australasian Shovelers did at least the bill
flick sideways and the head bob displays during these interactions. The
birds then moved towards the western end of Kelly's and began feeding.

The bird returned to its roost shortly before 1 pm which is when I too
returned to my roost in Turner.

Con
