Out of area, but continuing the theme further at Sydenham Inlet (Bemm River). After doing a count of 200 birds in a small area (mixed flock of coots, black swans, little black and little pied cormorants, chestnut teal and pacific black ducks, and pelicans)
I estimated a total of perhaps 2000 birds, possibly more, spread out across the water. Another interesting, if grisly, sighting down here was wedge tailed eagles and whistling kites feeding on the carcass of a deer at the waters edge. According to the locals
the deer are a real problem (like the goats out west) even wandering into gardens and eating the lemons of the trees!

Continuing a theme of large aggregations of birds this morning I counted 30 White-winged Choughs in Glebe Park, just within my GBS site. 11 birds were huddled on a branch (looking like
over-sized Woodswallows) with separate flocks of 6, 6 and 7 birds foraging on the ground.
