Was visited yesterday to check on the water birds to find that due to a gully
- breaker last month this large dam ( 41 acres and a complete reserve ) was
full.
About 200 waterfowl were observed, mainly European coots plus a family of black
swans, little pied cormorants, grey teal, hard heads, Australian shovelers and
about 8 musk ducks in this hotspot.
Of the raptors, a swamp harrier was patrolling the perimeter, whilst a collared
sparrow hawk was disturbing small groups of yellow faced honeyeaters near the
homestead.
What is also interesting, however, is a breeding record supplied by the owners
of whistling kites successfully rearing at least one chick.
I then visited the Hall TSR, increasingly infested with blackberry growth,
which was on the quiet side except for two groups of white plumed honeyeaters
and about 5 dusky woodswallows.
