Your trip was clearly better bird wise than our road trip Wednesday and Thursday via Murringo and Cowra to Orange and back via Eugowra and Canowindra.

There were very few birds at all to be seen from the car both in variety and total numbers.  We recorded only 40 species, saw almost no parrots, one Butcherbird, no apostle birds,  a handful of raptors.  for example we recorded only 2 Willy Wagtails on the whole trip!!

I found the whole experience very depressing from a birding view point.  Some of the country was very dry but other parts had clearly had recent rain and pastures were starting to green up but the absence of birds was the same everywhere.

The (only) highlight was a small flock of Plumed Whistling Ducks at the Canowindra sewage works.  I’ve seen them there in the past. (If anyone is passing through the sewage works are about 500m out of town on the road to Eugowra on the right hand side)

On the way we saw four WTNT nr Wallendbeen, following the rain-front.
At Jindalee NR 30 or so Brown Treecreepers and 60 or so Choughs in several flocks, plus various other spp inc 30+Speckled Warblers.
On the way further west, up Yeo Yeo Road, we saw more Choughs and Apostlebirds, one live Grey-crowned Babbler and one dead on the road.
At Reefton State Forest nr Temora (very dry) we saw no White-browed Babblers, but one Yellow-plumed Honeyeater.
On the way back we saw many Brown Falcons, several Black Kites, a Black Falcon before Murrumbateman and one Whistling Kite past Murrumbateman towards Canberra.
