I have been hearing them almost daily since January, and seeing them often. Today a few were feeding in an elm in a backyard of battleaxe block north of Hughes Primary. I got a picture of an immature coming into full male plumage (attached).
In the elm (A Japanese small-leaved one) there were four spp of parrot feeding: Superbs, Eastern Rosella, Sulphur-cresteds and Rainbow Lorikeet. The first three I can imagine feeding on elm seeds, but Rainbows? Perhaps there was some some of sticky sap
they were feeding on.
