A frequent subject of comment at Kelly Swamp, and background to more than a few photographic offerings, is the now-flowering Purple Loosestrife, an Australian native as reference to the National Herbarium website will confirm. While your finger is on the Google button you can also find that this ‘native of Eurasia’ is an unwelcome invasive species in North America.  In the below picture I have added well-known examples of Australian fauna to underline the national connection.
