there's a newish wetland at the corner of John Gorton Drive and Wyndham Ave in Coombs. This morning I was surprised to see a BBR as I pulled up. Even more surprised when a tiny black fluffy chick ran along edge of reeds next to the adult. 2nd adult also seen. Adult and chick were calling to each other. I note in the Annual Bird Report that BBR breeding is seldom recorded in the ACT, so a special start to the morning! The other wetland (cnr John Gorton and Coaldrake) had nothing of particular interest, but plenty of frogs calling (Spotted Grass Frog (many) and Plains Froglet (a few)). Several skylarks seen and heard on the undeveloped block between the two wetlands
