I saw only 2 Superb Fairy Wrens while blitzing Jerrabomberra Creek and
surrounds. The most noticeable thing here was reed warblers seemed well
down in numbers, the channel area where they are usually at their most
clamorous was strangely silent. Highlights were 3 pied cormorants, 3
Nankeen night herons and a freckled duck, the first I have seen in this
area in the 20 odd years I've paddled here. One of the night herons was
harassed by what I'm pretty sure was a dollar bird, physical contact
made, rufous feathers floated down to the surface of the water. Is that
normal behaviour for a dollar bird? (I later confirmed one in the area).
Non avialn sightings were water rat and brown snake, both swimming
strongly, and 3 kangaroos crossing the creek down at the silt trap.

Cheers

Rod
