An Olive-Backed Oriole spotted on the Flynn side of MT Rogers this afternoon at about 16.30. (Top right of hurried photo)
The birds were in Mt Rogers Reserve north of Schwarz Place’s back fence.
On the ground were several Apina callisto caterpillars. The largest ones were digging their pupation chambers into compacted soil behind several houses….One grain of soil at a time.
The Oriole’s appetite means it’s a race against time whether the mature caterpillars will have their vertical chambers ready before they are eaten.
I heard calls later.
There was at least one Satin Bowerbird, ‘green’ plumage, in the backyard of a dense Schwarz Place, Flynn garden. One flew across into the reserve entering some 800m south of where the Bowerbirds are regularly seen on the northern edge’s gardens.
