When feeding orphaned ( ? ) nestling Crested pigeons , ( a very messy business at best of times )if I am not quick enough pushing the feed mix through the feeder they bash their wings at the feeder in frustration .

Have also seen a feral pigeon fending off a Cocky in a bird feeder with their wings. The cocky won by grabbing the pigeon wing , drawing blood , pigeon then disabled was soon despatched by a passing raven . all in a matter of minutes.

Cockies also use their wings and feet when fighting …..they don’t win against the Little Corellas  though.

This comes from Adelaide but I wonder if similar events have been seen in the Canberra region.  Heading out yesterday morning I heard a loud clapping noise coming from the powerlines above our accommodation.  It was a pair of Crested Pigeons which on first sighting were doing the usual chest-puffing tail-raising display behaviour.  Then they moved closer together and appeared to strike each other with their wings.  This happened several times.

I've never seen them hit one one another before and wonder if they were making love or war?
