thanks to those who offered comments about the current state of LC and Fivebough.

I did a quick trip this last week as follows

  • Gum Swamp Forbes – plenty of water but few birds
  • Cowra Sewage works – plenty of water (!) but few birds
  • Lake C old sewage ponds – water in the main ponds but none in shallow “wader” pools.  Very few birds
  • Campbell’s Swamp Lake Wyangan – bone dry no birds
  • Lake Wyangan – few birds
I didn’t go to Fivebough but did visit the “Winton wetlands” down in Victoria.  Again – dry and no birds.

My total species list for this quick road trip was well down on previous trips.  Most notably there were very few parrots anywhere. 10 species of raptors were recorded with Black Shouldered Kites and Whistling Kites very much in evidence.

I wouldn’t recommend a visit out that way till they have decent rain.  However a trip focussing on bush birds may still be worthwhile.
