A group of birders were at the Aranda Frost Hollow this morning and we had a long-distance view of what appears to have been a white-morph Grey Goshawk.

The circumstances were almost identical to Steve Read's account of 30/3/2018 in the same area: a group of agitated Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos with one white bird of similar size but different flying behaviour soaring over the trees below them.  This latter bird seldom flapped its wings but glided with flat wings using the strong winds to advantage. The SCC's eventually moved off and the other bird glided into the trees below and out of sight.

This time the bird was on the other side of Caswell Drive, above the Black Mountain Nature Reserve. We were too far away to positively identify the bird except for its general behaviour, and from the close match to the previous report at this same location.

Steve's account from 30/3/18 on the COG Chatline:

At Aranda this morning, at the edge of the bushland towards the snow-gums, a large and very noisy flock of cockatoos contained a pair of ravens and some magpies. They were actively following one white bird in the flock that was a little smaller than the others. When separated from the flock, it flew into the large euc that I was standing under, and revealed itself as white-morph Grey Goshawk. Excellent views for the next 20 minutes or so as the goshawk moved from tree to tree, sometimes flying through in the canopy and sometimes above, usually with attendant magpies.
