In light of  continued concerns about vehicle safety when parked on Narrabundah Lane and Mugga Lane, I now park some distance away - at the TGA building for Callum Brae (15 mins to walk to the entrance), and at the Mugga Lane tip for Isaacs Ridge (25 mins walk to first survey site).

Callum Brae, 20 March
The reserve is very dry, with two of the six dams now dry.  Some of the blackberry patches are about to be tackled by authorities, to make it easier to get to some of the rabbit warrens. Very large numbers of rabbits were seen. 42 species were recorded for the day, with the most interesting being two Scarlet Robins, two Speckled Warblers, five Dusky Woodswallows, two Olive-backed Orioles (neither calling) and three White-throated Gerygones. No finches were seen.

Isaacs Ridge, 22 March
As with Callum Brae, very dry, with the only good dam in the survey area now not much more than a muddy puddle. A very quiet day in terms of species seen, perhaps due to the large numbers of Noisy Friarbirds (22) and Red Wattlebirds (8) present. Five Common Bronzewings were seen, although they are always seen outside the official survey sites. A total of 20 species.  There is very limited public access, and there has been a lot of planting and placement of logs since this site became part of the Isaacs Ridge Nature Reserve, so the general area should become more interesting with time.
