Thanks everyone for your suggestions in response to my query a couple of days ago. Most of you recommended the Collins Bird Guide to Europe with Lars Svensson which has an app for ipad which I downloaded. Now I’ll need to get used to using it! What a lot of birds there are that can be seen in Europe! Probably in order to get started I also need two very slim volumes called “Common birds of Spain” and “Common birds of Britain”. Many thanks especially to those of you who offered your own field guides for loan. We’re just on an organised tour of Spain and Portugal in May, so probably the only birds I’ll see will be those that frequent historic buildings.  In England in early June we’ll be driving so I might get more of a chance.

Cheers,

Sue
