This was posted to the Bywong & Wamboin Hub Facebook page yesterday, from a resident of that area:

Hi all. Just a heads up for anyone with little dogs and living within close proximity to Wedge Tail Eagles. Today we horrifically witnessed one of our little mates get mauled by the 5 resident wedgies that live up on the hill. He followed us down the paddock while we were checking cows and calves without us knowing and when we arrived back to the gate about 7 minutes later we spotted the 5 wedgies feasting on something that looked like a newborn lamb. The closer we got to them, they started to move away and we realised it was our little Jack Sparrow. It was too late. Just keep on eye on your little dogs if they are out in the open and in ‘Eagle eye view’. We don’t want anyone to witness such a brutal attack on their little friends, as we did today.

Sad for the dog owners.

Someone replied:
This has happened in Weeroona [Drive, Wamboin] as well about a year ago. Awful for you.

Another:
Recent weeks have lost lambs to eagle's

The dog's owner responded
Thanks for your concern everyone. We are all good. It was something that I wouldn’t want to happen to anyone but it is unfortunately life and reality. The kids were gutted at the time but they are at a very resilient age and have bounced back pretty well considering. Again, thanks for your concern and lovely wishes.

David
