I have spent a couple of hours with the Red-capped Robins at Yerrabi Pond
over a couple of days. They have been actively feeding but most of the time
the prey is small so it is difficult to see what they are taking. Sometimes
they take larger items from the ground, mostly spiders from my observations,
and today they were also hawking. The attached photo of a juvenile with a
spider, just given to it by the male, is taken from a video frame. The
insert is of one of the 'brown' birds (there were two in the tree at the
time) hawking with an arrow pointing to the insect it is about to catch .
While the spider is not in good condition, if anyone can suggest which type
it is I would appreciate it.
