Hi Julienne. Have you listened to white throated nightjar? How does that compare? Or even Spotted could be a possibility?

Over the last 2 weeks I have heard a call I am not familiar with during my evening walks at Hoskinstown east of Canderra. The environment is dry moderately timbered hilltop at the forest edge of Tallaganda Forest.

I find it hard to describe calls but here goes -

It starts with a few low ooh ooh notes then winds up to higher pitched shoter ah ah. The single 5 or 6 second call is repeated in 5 minutes

Last night I heard both an owletnightjar and a boobook call on same walk

I am not even sure it is a bird call but I suspect it is

Any clues all you clever birdwatchers?
