Hi All,
Just a reminder that the final National Snipe survey for this season is this coming Saturday 20th January – thank you for your ongoing involvement! Instructions are the same as usual – let me know if you need a reminder although I suspect
you have all done it enough times now to be experts.
Birgita Hansen asked me to pass on the results of the National Surveys to date. Her email is below.
Finally, our next Snipe catch is going to held on the long weekend in January (26th – 28th) at Jerra Wetlands. Volunteers are welcome – just call or email me for details if you are interested.
Thanks a lot, Lori

Hi All,
The November count was incredible and exceeded all snipe count records I have at hand. The total count was 1459 snipe across 90 sites! What an amazing effort. These numbers were driven by a count of 550 snipe at Fox Lakes in Robe, SA. Lots
of careful vetting and cross-checking has occurred to make sure any potential double-ups have been accounted for. This is in addition to my usual vetting whereby I typically drop out counts not done on the count day – this was the case for some of ACT counts,
although the numbers dropped were generally low or zero. So I am feeling fairly confident this is a “true” count. For comparison, the maximum summed annual count of latham’s snipe from the entire Shorebirds2020 database was 1124.
Once again I’d like to express my gratitude to you all for your contribution and fabulous counting efforts. I hope you might be able to keep up this energy for the next count on January 20.
Thanks
Birgita
