I remember quite a few years ago I was working in the Port Lincoln area of South Australia. They had a big problem with cockies, mainly Galahs, in the town. The Local mayor decided to get his mates from the local gun club to fix the problem.
It was not a pretty sight. The State Government quickly put a stop to his activities reminding him that only they could approve control of "pest' native birds. Towns in semi arid areas are a bit of a magnet for these birds in late summer, when things are
dry, the crops are long harvested and there is little food about. You can see that even with Major Mitchell Cockatoos, which come into places like Griffith NSW in mid summer, esp around the Airport and town Golf course.
