I took this pic at Gem Tree, NT (about 70km NE of Alice Springs) a few years ago and its identity has always puzzled me.  In the area at the time were Slaty-backed Thornbills and Western Gerygones.  This bird clearly had a red eye, consistent with both species mentioned. It looks more like a Gerygone to me, however, it lacks a tail and its eyebrow is almost non-existent.  Can anyone help me out on this one?
