I've been wanting to film this one of these special birds for some time and I have been frustrated until now.  The largest extant member of NZ's endemic bird family the Callaeidae or New Zealand Wattlebirds.

Where still found on the mainland it lives high up in tall forest where it is rare and hard to see, even when located by call. Here filmed on an off shore island where reintroduced and where they live in regenerating coastal forest that is not too tall which gives you a chance of a reasonable view, even so I was lucky.

One to help fill in ones knowledge of the birds in our greater region of the world...

Enjoy

David
