Brown Goshawks on the northern boundary of the Botanic Gardens have a nest.
They have been defending an area of approximately 350m2 around it, sometimes swooping individuals walking by (though not groups) and aggressively warding off other birds like Miners and Larks who fly any higher than the grevileas. Closest one
has swooped is a couple of rulers length from the front lens element or a brush of air from behind. Imposing yes but still preferable to a Magpie.
Today they seemed mostly relaxed, until a pair of wattlebirds perched on a branch near the nest. They were quickly given marching orders.
There’s something fluffy and white in the nest so potentially one chick. But unable to see movement or get a better angle.
While one of the pair is in the nest, the other is keeping watch usually from a tree downhill approximately 40m away.
