I’ve been hearing koels in my neighbourhood in Deakin ever since my first report on 10 October.  But today, I had a brief but pleasurable visit by a male and female in my yard.

Koel has been heard calling for about a week or two.

Koels have been visiting Higgins for the past five or six years but this is late for them to be calling. Perhaps I have just not heard them earlier. Last year there was one male and about three females. Someone posted a juvenile on Canberra Nature Map.

There is a Red Wattlebird nest nearby so hope it hasn’t been predated.

Also seem to be a lot around this year. Heard them calling from the end of Eyre Street, Kingston, Coulter Drive Weetangera, and near the Hawker entrance to the Pinnacle. All in the past week.
