The brooding male Tawny Frogmouth has been very restless this afternoon. At 1 point I saw a flash of white underneath him but on watching through my telescope I saw that this was an egg,
which he repositioned, not a bobblehead. My guess is that the egg is being pecked from the inside which is causing the restlessness.
Assuming that to be correct this gives a brooding period of 28 days: that has been the length of the brooding period for 5 of the 8 years for which I have records. Of the other 3 years,
2 have been 29 days and one 27! The word "consistent" springs to mind.
