Yesterday evening there was a male koel calling briefly (first time heard this season here in lower Ainslie) in a neighbour’s tree.

A minute or two later, there was a huge crash at one of our kitchen windows as the koel, hotly pursued by one or two wattlebirds, collided heavily with glass.

The semi-stunned koel recovered briefly on a fence before disappearing.
