Hi Canberra Birders
The link below to a web streamed CCTV camera on a Little Eagle nest will give the public unprecedented contact with Little Eagles and may help build support for conservation. This pair has been observed mating for about a week now and
has been arriving for a few minutes each day for ‘nestorations’. Video clips at this site give access to a few of the highlight moments that have occurred to date.
There are two cameras covering this nest and the surrounding branches, so that wherever the adult birds stand, the prey they are holding can be seen from one camera or the other. The camera being streamed has remote pan, tilt and zoom
controls. The other camera is vertically above the nest. The imagery from both cameras is recorded to a hard drive in an office then one is streamed to the web. The (substantial) cost of setting it up for this nest has been met by Ginninderry Joint Venture.
Web streaming has not been provided from cameras on other Little Eagle nests which were set up from another funding source. We in the research team are still on a steep learning curve with this technology. Likely we will do better next year.
Please enjoy! They are fantastic beasts to watch.
