Evening talk - ‘Natural Capital of Sri Lanka with special emphasis on birds and mammals’

Sri Lanka is blessed with abundance of nature’s gifts and the pinnacle of them is biodiversity. Within its comparatively small size of just over 65,000 km², it has varied climatic and ecological zones, from coastal lowland to mountain plateaus and wet rain forests to dry arid zones. Such zonal diversity and habitat variety collectively contribute to the high biodiversity in the island.

>From the visitor perspective it can be interpreted as an opportunity to see the largest sea mammal-the whale and the largest land mammal- the elephant in the span of two days as well as over 200 species of birds including 33 endemics in a 10 day trip. Sri Lanka is the best location in the world to see the leopard (panther pardus) during daytime. Sri Lankan culture and civilization is a reaction and interaction of this diversity with humans.

You will get a rare opportunity to hear about this highly diverse little island through the firsthand experience of an ecologist and nature photographer Rahula Perera on 21st September at the Sri Lanka High Commission. An interactive session will follow the presentation.
