Greetings. I had a call this morning from a friend out for her morning
walk along Macs Reef Road. She had come across a strange-looking bird
that someone, on Facebook, told her was a bittern. It was on the ground,
trapped between that very busy road and a fence just a few metres away.
I took a large towel with a view to catching it if it was injured and
unable to fly but, as I got to within a few metres it flew strongly up
into a tree and then hopped higher into the foliage, so it should be safe.
