Murray has sent me several more photos of his small mystery cockatoo and from at least one of these photos I am happy that it is a hybrid Sulphur-crested and Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo. Joe Forshaw in a phone call to me this morning also suggested a possible hybrid with either galah or Major Mitchell as one of the “partners”. He said that the race that Murray had referred to (based on the learned wisdom of those on the chatline as Murray said to me!!) was an endangered species that has never been (legally) kept in Australia.

Joe also confirmed what I thought was my mystery bird – an aberrant Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.
