Yesterday:
Immature Nankeen Night-heron at Gordon Pond. Good crake habitat.
Immature GCGrebe, Great Egret, Latham's Snipe (was it in the survey sites?) were highlights at Point Hut Pond. 1 dead swamphen and 1 headless White-faced Heron as well as remains of 2 other birds were also present.

An update on Fadden Pond: Recently they have done work dredging the inlet beside the playground for improved water flow. A lot of vegetation has been cleared, and the spot where Spotless Crakes have been seen intermittently over the past 2 years is no longer very suitable. The so called "sanctuary island for bird habitat" included in the works is pretty much bare and covered in mulch. On a more positive note, a beautiful bird mural has been painted on the pump station at the top of the gully while no one was looking, featuring a selection of egrets/herons, Purple Swamphens, Australian Magpies,Rainbow Lorikeet, Superb Fairy-wren, Crimson and Eastern Rosellas, and a stunning yet to be identified Kingfisher from more tropical lands. Well worth a look.
