I have “Birds of East Asia” by Mark Bravil, which is quite good, although it covers a lot more than Japan, so it’s a bigger book than would otherwise be required just for Japan. I’m not sure what other options there are. I am happy for you to have a look or have a loan of it as I have no plans to be in that part of Asia anytime in the foreseeable future.

I’m not aware of any phone app guide, and ebIrd data is scarce, so I relied on this book when I was there last

Hi all,

My wife and I are thinking of going to Japan some time in 2018. Does anyone have any experience with any Japanese field guides to the birds there (in English) that they would recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Mark
