Hi All,

Just an update on R7. As many of you know from previous posts he / she has a leg injury.

We are working with the researchers and banding experts to try to determine whether we attempt to recapture it. This will be extremely difficult as the bird is otherwise in good condition and is feeding and mobile. We are unable to determine from the pictures if the injury is from the leg flag itself (there are mixed opinions on this), but regardless, we need to think of the best approach. Sneaking up on it at night is highly unlikely to work, so we may need to consider trying to use nets. The other complication is that it is likely to migrate soon. Our Snipe numbers are dwindling at the Wetlands and Tsubasa headed off to the Gwydir a couple of weeks ago (although Nozomi is still getting around the place).

Anyway just wanted to keep you updated and to request that if you see R7 can you please let us know – preferably with a picture. Thanks to those who have already sent us some great photos!

Feel free to call me if you need further info or wish to discuss any of this further.

Cheers Lori
