An idea of size would help. The very speckled look is hard to match but I think of a robin. How many little birds do we have a streaked as that? Speckled Warbler maybe? It does not look like the type of bird that would breed in a box. Among passerines, that is pretty much just finches and pardalotes, it certainly isn’t one of them. I would not rule out that it is a ground nesting species and maybe It was found on the ground because that is where it is supposed to be..... What adult birds are around that are contenders?

A resident of the Hoskinstown area has asked for help with the ID of this baby bird.


It was found on the ground and has been placed in a box hung from a tree above that spot so the parents will be able to find it.
