Thanks for that Matthew.  Looking at the last post on that conversation I think my sighting was the two males.  Thus not a tick.  Bugger!  Still counts for BirdaDay!

Driving back from Mallacoota (needed some R&R) along the Monaro highway North of Numeralla and just South of Billilingra Frances and I saw 2 Ostriches grazing beside the road in what appeared to be a standard sheep paddock.   We both saw the birds so it wasn't an hallucination.  Here is what I have submitted to eBird:

"2 birds feeding in paddock next to Monaro Highway.  First thought was emu - surprising in that location then realised they were much too large and didn't look like dishevelled haystacks.  The birds appeared much more "plumed" and black and white rather than grey-brown in colour.  They are possibly survivors from a commercial operation which used to be signed from the highway several kilometres North. "
