One juvenile Nankeen Night Heron hangs about Ginninderra Creek behind my house of an evening.  I am sure many have noticed how unusual these NN Heron breeding records are. A cursory look at the last 3 years of CBN shows no breeding records in 2016 and 2015  and one record in 2014. We are in a very unusual year for waterbirds or perhaps more accurately a special year in the cycle. My very amateur observation is that while a number of species disappeared – notably Eurasian Coots which are now returning – those species which did not disappear are observed to be breeding more prolifically than in the last decade or so.
