Did you see movement in the little blob? Maybe “clearly” is a generous word but sure looks correct, especially as the little blob shows signs of the same white V marking on the front as the adults have. That would seem likely. I just checked HANZAB, neither the text or picture show that feature for the chick but does refer to “characteristically striped” (above). This is not in this photo but that is just the view shown.
