Geoffrey

I agree with you that conservation must remain a legitimate concern.

I’m all for ending discussions, but which discussion?  The issue of the arboretum has certainly been battered to death.  However, a more general issue has been raised:  what measures (now, in 2017) should be introduced or continued to improve the plight of local bird species? (Genuinely useful ideas anyone?)   It is trite to say that this is not something where the ACT can do very much on its own.  Many of us can recite our credentials in past capacities. I recall the strange saga of implementing the Japan/Australia MBA. You would not believe that story,  a tale, as Watson said of the Giant Rat of Sumatra, for which the world is not yet prepared.   Then there are mini-stories within the Great Tasmanian Dam Case that cannot yet be divulged.  Etc etc  ..

This chatline has no useful role in reporting rarities.  Ebird has taken that over, as Alastair said it would (and should) years ago.

IDing species in photos by perplexed snappers can be done in several other ways.

Not much future for this chatline if conservation is not a legitimate concern.

Greetings all. May I suggest that John's comments here are a suitable place to end this discussion?

I think that the issues have been thoroughly canvassed, and thank all contributors for remaining polite and respectful of other list members in the process.

Let's return to our more usual topics.

Thank you - David
