Probably a delusion...

Kate,

Thanks for that, I shall certainly keep a sharp listen-out, and try to get a direction if I hear something.

The call was sufficiently different from the usual night calls (Koels, bats, possums, dogs etc) to ask myself "what was that?"

I live in Beauchamp Street, Deakin, 50 metres down from the Red Hill reserve.

Thanks for the report.

May not be a delusion I had an aboriginal woman provide a similar report a year ore 2 back. I went to investigate but found nothing.

David please keep us informed if you hear anything further. Could be very exciting if it is and the earlier report was accurate as perhaps this is one of our birds from year 1 or 2 of the release persisting outside the sanctuary.

Hi David
With full-winged BSC at Mulligans Flat, 16 km away, it seems to me this is
more likely to be what it seemed (BSC) than a related species or a delusion.

But I heard something call briefly last night (abt 1am) in western Deakin
that reminded me quite a bit of a Bush Stone-curlew.  The call was repeated
about five times, very similar to the COG website recording at the 44 second
point.  I know the sound of the birds from Cairns.

Very likely something quite unrelated, but definitely not a possum or a bat.

File under "very improbable".
