Tuggeranong Hill was surveyed yesterday, on a fine, mild and still morning. Sub-site 6 was the most active for the first time ever, with 11 species.
The Rainbow Lorikeets at sub-site 2, which had young in a hollow in spring, were again guarding the entrance, intimidating the
Eastern Rosella and
Galah pairs in the same tree. Other breeding records in the surveys were
Noisy Friarbird feeding young in a nest,
Magpie-lark on nest,
Australian Magpie with dependant young and lots of
Common Mynas and Common Starlings carrying food into several hollows each. The highlights between sites included a
Sacred Kingfisher at a hollow and a soaring
Wedge-tailed Eagle.
Breeding records were Eastern Rosella, Pied Currawong, Australian Raven, House Sparrow
and White-winged Chough with young birds in their party.
Twenty-four species were observed during the surveys, with a further ten added in between.
