Fair call, but I have occasionally seen singles elsewhere, but never before in suburban ACT.

At Lake Mournpool (?sp) in Hattah Kulkyne even thinking about a biscuit brings forth a horde of Apostlebirds walking up and down on the picnic tables demanding sustenance.

There were various conspiracy theories advanced about the Babblers but I can see nothing unusual about the behaviour of this Apostlebird (other than its location).

The following are nothing more than undigested thoughts.

At rest stops on roads north and west of here, the crunch of a SAO biscuit
or muesli bar often brings this species very close indeed  -  literally
underfoot as they compete for any scattered crumbs, quite fearlessly.  An
old rest-stop hand?

We've had two single babblers that I can remember.  A possible explanation
aired at the time was that they might have been exiled/displaced females -
as sometimes happens with those species.  Haven't checked whether it happens
with A-birds.

Just a note that I meant to put on the chatline yesterday and prompted by
Paul's email - the Apostlebird is still in the vicinity of the small wetland
where it was first seen. I have real doubts that this bird is a genuine wild
bird, it is way too tame.

Hello everyone

There is a report on Canberra Nature Map that an Apostlebird was sighted at
Watson on the 4th October this year.  Is there any corroboration of this
sighting?

Paul
