In recent days,  the evening fly-out from the Commonwealth Park roost has been interesting viewing from the middle of Ainslie - around 8.30 pm (and probably earlier?) there is a steady stream of Flying Foxes beating their silent way northwards (at c. 30-40 m above ground) heading for food…

(I must try a count one evening) .

That does happen Nick but it has to be a good thwack to dislodge a pup from mother.

For some reason this year we are seeing GFF usually pregnant or with new born not making it  back to the roost in Commonwealth Park.

They are then exposed to the Currawongs who relentlessly bombard them from first light to last light targeting the pup and eyes of adults often causing the dislodgement of the pup.

ACT wildlife have been called on numerous occasions this year to try to rescue GFF from the birds with limited success.

This young flying-fox was under one of the street trees in Bremer St,
Griffith. Head and body length about 10cm. Would this one have fallen
off its parent while the parent was foraging?
