My understanding is that the parents changeover several times overnight so that both get a chance to feed themselves as well as gather food for the chick(s).  On occasion this means the chicks are left alone in the nest for a short while.

The only time I have seen both parents at the nest together was when the male (on daytime roost duty as usual) got assistance from the female in repelling a particularly intrusive Currawong.

Once the chick(s) leave the nest both parents roost with them for up to a month, giving many good photo-ops!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to Roy, John and Suzanne regarding the nesting Tawny Frogmouth in Yarralumla.

The gentleman in No9 was keen to come out for a chat and told Alison & I that he'd observed the parent changeover at around 5am yesterday morning, so he'd seen the two birds together for the first time.

This is the first froggie nest I've seen ... not much of a nest really .. hope it does the job ..

Cheers
