My understanding is that the parents changeover several times overnight so that both get a chance to feed themselves as well as gather food for the chick(s). On occasion this means the
chicks are left alone in the nest for a short while.
The only time I have seen both parents at the nest together was when the male (on daytime roost duty as usual) got assistance from the female in repelling a particularly intrusive Currawong.
Once the chick(s) leave the nest both parents roost with them for up to a month, giving many good photo-ops!
