After some calling yesterday, I tracked down the first Koel for the season to the same silky oak as I first did last year, but a fortnight earlier, consistent with their seeming earlier arrival this year.

 

Unlike last year the male only called intermittently, initially some brief wirra wirraing/whoa whoaing, but then all koeling, as it did yesterday and in my experience is the call mostly given on first arrival.

 

Another breeding season to monitor ahead of us!
