A neighbour who is familiar with Channel-billed Cuckoos thought she saw one this morning.  This is a good bit earlier in the year than they have been reported in Carwoola in the past and she now has some doubts.  I note that
  • COG Bird Info does show them being recorded in the general area in September;
  • eBird has several sightings of first returns to Sydney over the weekend (so they are on the move); and
  • there was a strong Northerly wind at times over the weekend which might have sent one this side of the coastal ranges.
Thus it seems a possibility that the bird was as she thought.  Folk might like to keep their eyes and (for this species more than many) ears open for the species.
