An ephemeral marsh on private property on the Plain has got water in it at present, and a visit today produced two interesting breeding records.  A pair of Australian Shelduck had 3 small young.  The grebes on the pond were split about 30:20 in favour of Hoary-headed Grebes: Australasian and one of the former species sat on a nest for some time.  There were several other grebeish nests but none were occupied while I was present.
