Thanks to all who were kind enough to tell me about useful D Firetail sites. I don’t think they will mind if I reproduce here the consolidated list -
Majura Vineyard (shop – or at least consult the management – first)
Googong Dam - above boat launch parking area, above toilet block
Castle Hill - note this is private property
Speak to John Harris about any recent appearances at bird feeders in Percival Hill area
Start of Yankee Hat walk, Old Boboyan Road
SOMETIMES at southern fenceline, The Pinnacle
Gilmore horse agistment paddock

I would be very interested to know of a reliable spot for Diamond Firetails these days. By ‘reliable’ I mean no guarantee but that they’re more likely than not to be found after say 3 visits. In past years I’ve found them at Callum Brae,
East O’Malley, the Newline paddock, and even at the Campbell Park horse crossing, but I wouldn’t regard those spots as ‘reliable’ at the present time. Perhaps the species is never locally reliable unless there’s a nesting territory. gd
