Those who remember the Benny Hill Show from the 1970s will remember the
farcical pursuit sequences, where different groups of people would be pursuing
other groups with the police chasing all of them, these groups would chase each
other into buildings and then emerge in a different order (all the people
chasing the police &c)
This morning in our back yard in Hughes I was observing a pair of Rainbow
Lorikeets who were perched on a branch allopreening (there have been up to 14
RLs around our house in recent days). Suddenly a Straw-necked Ibis flew over
and they took off like rockets (there were also assorted cries of alarm from
various other birds). 30 seconds later the Ibis flew over again, this time
pursed by a Magpie, the two lorikeets and a couple of Cockatoos.
😀
This is the first Ibis of either kind I have observed in Hughes for 4-5 years,
they used to be seen every few weeks in autumn and winter on Hughes and/or
Deakin ovals.
