Last night at about 11 there were three boobooks calling in this vicinity
(middle of Duffy St). One was far off, near the bottom of Hawdon St and the
wetland, I'd say, but the other two came very close to our house, calling
continually. One then began to make a call that pretty much matches the
'courtship call' in the Morcombe iPhone field guide. The two exchanged calls in
a brief flurry, then all was silent.
It seems unlikely that it's courtship at this time of year, but maybe it's a
parent feeding a dependent young. What do the better informed think?
